An L.A. Summation

Arriving from Canada, sleeping on sofas,

A hundred concerts

Four full time jobs,

A dozen freelance ones.

The death of two parents

A cat's ashes scattered at sea.

Holidays unnoticed

Never-changing weather pattern.

Sepulveda looks like Centinela.

The menace of Venice's homeless

Expand through the city like a traffic jam.

An amusement park event.

One horse ride to a mountain top.

A family reunion.

A marriage.

Things that went right.

Hospital stay.

Broken windows, protests and violence.

Fires and gunshots.

Fireworks that sounded like gunshots.

Gunshots that sounded like fireworks.

Things that went wrong.

And then sitting witness

To the bioluminescent blue Pacific.

The last allure before the luster leaves.

The last exit before you're stuck.

Now surrounded by boxes

Marked "dishes, clothes and Misc."

Kittens snore atop Mount Cardboard.

Soon heading East like an

Okie without a compass,

Choking in an emotional dust bowl,

Preparing for launch into the unforeseeable.
