Happy Birthday Sandy Denny
I was reminded on Twitter that it was Sandy Denny's birthday. Her life was way too short and too tragic. But her voice came from another world. While most people in America would know her as the other half of the duet with Robert Plant on Zeppelin's "The Battle of Evermore," her work in the Strawbs and Fairport Convention was as much if not more impactful.
I fell in love with "Who knows where the time goes," that I just about lost my job trying to sell the track on a Mazda spot. While I didn't win that battle, I did get the director's cut. Thankfully the director John Hillcoat agreed with my choice.
It's hard to believe this was shot only two years ago. It feels like two lifetimes ago.I miss Chile, the ethereal wine country, the jaw-dropping foothills of the Andes and especially the one exquisite respite in hot and smoggy Santiago– the Hotel Bidasoa. If I am ever fortunate enough to shoot something there again I will make a beeline for it. Great people, great hospitality and fantastic food, too.
