Obscure No. 10: The Pavilion of Dreams - Harold Budd

When I think of sci-fi film soundtracks, two types of music come to mind. Vengelis synths. And Harold Budd.

The former because of Blade Runner, and the latter because of Blade Runner, too.

There's something so film noirish about some of Budd's music that pairs well with neon, androids and 80's decadence. At least in my mind. Listen to Brian Eno's compilation Obscure No. 10 and Budd's "Bismillahi Rrahmani Rahim" and Marion Brown's lonely, dirty saxophone slinks around and Budd's glockenspiel adds context. It's the sound of of dirty street lights shimmering through endless pollution.

I have lived in L.A. too long.

By the way, this site Ubuweb is a great one for art, music, film, spoken word and the like.
