The weather is hot as shit in L.A. right now. This is a surprise to anyone who doesn't pay attention to the seasons or doesn't live here. The hottest season is always fall, not summer. It's taken me ten years to figure this out, because my northeast brain couldn't grok it.
It's also the reason I start searching in vain for changing leaves that don't exist, and subjugate my family to a few weeks’ worth of cooking via my favorite slow cooker– the tagine. Last night it was slow cooked duck legs and thyme which turn to confit. The night before was lamb shank that fell of the bone into an aromatic spice blend that also included organic fresh dates. I almost never eat sugar but if I do it comes from fruit so at least it's offset with nutrients.
