Mother's Day Sunday and the Week To Come
On May 13th it will have been seven years since my mom passed away. I saw that one of her best friends still leaves comments on the legacy.com page. Almost every year. And it's heartening to know that she touched people's lives and still lives on. This was taken in 2010, her first time visiting me when I move to L.A. I wished she would have visited Montreal when I lived there. She would have loved that city.
She lived in L.A. in the mid-sixties and witnessed Bob Dylan and Lenny Bruce in person. She thought Dylan was so bow-legged you could drive a truck through the gap in his knees. And she thought Lenny Bruce was too foul mouthed and unfunny. Even during radical times she was radical. Refusing to walk in lockstep with any side. Her apartment complex in Pasadena still exists, too. It looked unchanged the last time I passed by it. Preserved in cute amber.
Here's to you, divine Ms. E.
I'm posting your favorite Cracker song in tribute.
Far from sad or even bittersweet, this is a beautiful Mother's day.
I woke up early, went walking with my better half, then came home with a surprise for baby girl: a red velvet cupcake.
For breakfast, I made the lady eggs benny's with homemade hollandaise cause I ain't no slouch.
Add to that some mimosas and the morning's off to a great start.
Everyone was happy except for Bowie cat who felt left out. She is currently napping on my lap so all is forgiven.
On Thursday, Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips are doing a livestream concert to support the Rental Affordability Act. I don't care if you are left or right, we should all be able to agree that the rent is out of control. especially in California. This seems like a no-brainer at least on paper. No doubt the corruption in this state will make so that even if the bill passes, nothing will change.
But let's put cynicism aside so we can dream just for a night.
